Americký hudebník, skladatel a zpěvák Tom Petty patřil k nejvýraznějším postavám amerického rockového písničkářství. Byl spoluzakladatelem slavné skupiny Traveling Wilburys, ve které působili také Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison nebo George Harrison. S doprovodnou kapelou The Heartbreakers fungoval průběžně od roku 1976.
Koncertní album Live At the Fillmore 1997 přináší na dvou CD výběr z památné série dvaceti koncertů, které Petty se svými Heartbreakers odehráli během dvaceti nocí v legendárním prostoru Fillmore v San Franciscu. Šest vystoupení bylo profesionálně zaznamenáno a tento výběr nabízí některé z vrcholů těchto koncertů. Repertoár zahrnuje autorské hity i klasické coververze jako Time is On My Side, Knockin' On Heaven's Door či Gloria, doplněný o mluvené vstupy mezi skladbami. Na nahrávce se jako hosté objevují Roger McGuinn a John Lee Hooker.
