John McLaughlin je britský kytarista a skladatel, průkopník jazz fusion, který ve své hudbě spojuje jazz s rockem, world music, západní klasikou, flamencem a blues. Hrál s Milesem Davisem na jeho electric jazz-fusion albech In a Silent Way a Bitches Brew a vedl virtuózní The Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Album The Montreux Years na dvojvinylu shromažďuje živá vystoupení z Montreux Jazz Festival z let 1978 až 2016. Nahrávky zachycují McLaughlina v rozmanitých sestavách — s The Mahavishnu Orchestra (Radio Activity, Nostalgia), s flamenco kytaristou Pacem de Lucíou (David, Florianapolis), s The One Truth Band (Friendship), The Heart of Things (Acid Jazz), The Free Spirits (Sing Me Softly of the Blues) a The 4th Dimension (El Hombre Que Sabia).
