Poprvé album vyšlo v roce 1978 a představuje zásadní umělecký posun k tanečnějšímu a rytmičtějšímu zvuku pod producentským vedením Briana Ena. Deska je charakteristická výraznou basovou linkou Tiny Weymouth, energickými bicími Chrise Frantze a experimentálními klávesami, které společně vytvářejí originální směs punku, funku a novovlnné estetiky. Texty Davida Byrna se pohybují mezi satirou amerických hodnot, absurditou každodenního života a osobními tématy, často s ironickým odstupem.
