Sepultura je brazilská metalová kapela z města Belo Horizonte, kterou v roce 1984 založili bratři Max a Igor Cavalerovi. Na konci 80. a začátkem 90. let patřila ke hlavním silám thrash metalu a death metalu, později ve své tvorbě čerpala i z groove metalu, alternativního metalu a world music.
Beneath the Remains je třetí studiové album skupiny, vydané v dubnu 1989 u Roadrunner Records. Nahrávka znamenala pro kapelu mezinárodní průlom v extrémní metalové scéně — oproti předchozím deskám přinesla vylepšenou produkci a technicky propracovanější kompozice. Album bylo nahráno v Rio de Janeiru s producentem Scottem Burnsem, známým z práce pro Obituary, Death či Morbid Angel. Deska se postupem času stala thrash metalovou klasikou s více než 600 000 prodanými kopiemi. Rozšířená reedice na 2CD nabízí nově zremasterovanou nahrávku a 31 skladeb včetně instrumentálních verzí, drum tracků a dobového koncertního materiálu z Německa. Mezi klíčové skladby patří Inner Self, Mass Hypnosis nebo Slaves of Pain.
V době vydání alba tvořili Sepulturu Max Cavalera (zpěv), Igor Cavalera (bicí), Paulo Jr. (baskytara) a Andreas Kisser (kytara).
