Diana Rossová patří mezi nejvýznamnější americké pěvkyně soulu a popu. V 60. letech byla lídryní skupiny The Supremes, která se stala nejúspěšnější kapelou Motown a jednou z komerčně nejúspěšnějších ženských skupin vůbec. Po přechodu na sólovou dráhu na začátku 70. let si vybudovala pozici superstar, mistryně stylů od soulu přes disco až po jazz. Získala třináct nominací na cenu Grammy, Zlatý glóbus i ocenění Tony.
Kompilace Love & Life: The Very Best of Diana Ross vyšla roku 2001 u vydavatelství EMI jako dvoudiskový set s 41 skladbami. První CD přináší energické hity jako Chain Reaction, klasiky The Supremes (Baby Love, Where Did Our Love Go, Stop! In the Name of Love), disco skladby I'm Coming Out a Upside Down i pozdější nahrávky včetně remixu Until We Meet Again. Druhé CD staví na baladickém materiálu a filmových tématech, například Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To) či Touch Me in the Morning. Kolekce pokrývá její tvorbu od šedesátých let až do konce 90. let a nabízí průřez dekádami slavných hitů i méně známých nahrávek.
