Pretenders je britsko-americká rocková skupina založená v roce 1978 v Herefordu iniciátorkou a autorkou většiny písní Chrissie Hynde. Kapela zažila během osmdesátých let úmrtí dvou členů spojená s drogami a následné personální změny, přičemž Hynde zůstala jediným stálým členem.
Album Pretenders II vyšlo v srpnu 1981 u vydavatelství Sire Records jako druhé studiové album skupiny a dosáhlo 7. příčky v britské hitparádě a 10. místa v americkém žebříčku Billboard 200. Toto třídiskové rozšířené vydání sestavila sama Chrissie Hynde a zahrnuje původní nahrávku z roku 1981 s písněmi Message of Love, Talk of the Town či Day After Day, dále demo verze a živé záznamy z koncertu v newyorském Central Parku z srpna 1980. Jde o poslední album v původní sestavě, než byla kapela následující rok zasažena smrtí kytaristy Jamese Honeyman-Scotta.
V době vydání alba tvořili Pretenders Chrissie Hynde (zpěv, kytara), James Honeyman-Scott (kytara, klávesy, doprovodné vokály), Pete Farndon (baskytara, doprovodné vokály), Martin Chambers (bicí), Carwyn Ellis a Nick Wilkinson.
