Billy Preston byl americký klavírista a klávesista, jehož tvorba zahrnovala R&B, soul, funk, rock i gospel. V šedesátých letech spolupracoval s The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Rayem Charlesem nebo Samem Cookem a později se prosadil jako sólový interpret s hity jako „Space Race“, „Will It Go Round in Circles“ či „Nothing from Nothing“.
Album That's the Way God Planned It vyšlo v roce 1969 jako Prestonovo první studiové album. Tato limitovaná edice na barevném fialovém vinylu přináší dvanáct skladeb včetně titulní That's the Way God Planned It, která patří mezi Prestonovy nejznámější singly.
