Metallica patří k nejúspěšnějším metalovým kapelám světa a významné čtveřici thrash metalu 80. let. Tato americká skupina, založená v roce 1981, prodala přes 100 milionů alb a získala devět cen Grammy.
Album ReLoad na 3 CD vyšlo v listopadu 1997 u vydavatelství Blackened. Jde o sedmou studiovou desku a pokračování alba Load z roku 1996 — původně Metallica zvažovala dvojalbum, ale na radu producenta Boba Rocka rozdělila materiál na dva samostatné tituly. ReLoad obsahuje 42 skladeb včetně původních nahrávek a demoversí z období kompozice Loadu. Album debutovalo na 1. místě v USA (436 000 prodaných kopií v prvním týdnu) a celosvětově se jej prodalo přes 9,5 milionu kusů. Mezi výrazné skladby patří Fuel, The Memory Remains (s hostující zpěvačkou Marianne Faithfull) a The Unforgiven II, pokračování písně z BlackAlbumu. Hudebně se Metallica pohybovala na rozhraní heavy metalu, alternativního rocku a bluesových vlivů, což přilákalo širší publikum. Na albu poprvé zazněl ženský host — jediný v diskografii kapely.
Sestavu tvořili James Hetfield (kytara, hlavní zpěv), Lars Ulrich (bicí, perkuse), Kirk Hammett (doprovodný zpěv, kytara) a Jason Newsted (doprovodný zpěv, basová kytara). Pro Newsteda to bylo poslední studiové album s Metallicou.
