John Lanchbery patřil k nejvýznamnějším dirigentům baletní hudby ve druhé polovině 20. století, známý svými nahrávkami klasických baletů pro přední světové orchestry. Specializoval se na interpretaci romantické a klasické baletní hudby.
Toto CD přináší kompletní nahrávku baletu Giselle francouzského skladatele Adolpha Adama z roku 1841, jednoho z pilířů romantického baletního repertoáru. Nahrávka zachycuje oba akty díla – od úvodních venkovských scén přes dramatický first act finale až po fantastický druhý akt s tanci vílích Wilis. Dílo je dodnes hojně uváděno na baletních scénách po celém světě pro svou lyrickou melodickou krásu a emocionální hloubku příběhu o dívce, která umírá láskou a po smrti ochraňuje svého milého před pomstou lesních duchů.
