Grateful Dead byla americká rocková skupina založená v roce 1965 v Palo Alto v Kalifornii, známá eklektickým stylem spojujícím prvky rocku, blues, folku, country, bluegrassu, jazzu, gospelu a reggae s psychedelií. Proslula dlouhými improvizacemi během koncertů a oddanou fanouškovskou základnou zvanou „Deadheads“. V roce 2007 skupina obdržela Grammy za celoživotní přínos.
Kompilace The Best of the Grateful Dead Live vyšla v březnu 2018 u vydavatelství Rhino a nabízí 19 skladeb nahraných živě a dříve zveřejněných na koncertních albech skupiny. Třináct z nich se vyskytuje ve studiové variantě na albu The Best Of The Grateful Dead, zbývajících šest skupina ve studiu nikdy nenahrála. Mezi zvýrazněnými skladbami jsou Truckin', Touch of Grey, Eyes of the World nebo Morning Dew.
Na albu se podíleli Bruce Hornsby, Robert Hunter a Rob Wasserman.
