Desmond Dekker byl jamajský zpěvák a skladatel, jedna z prvních mezinárodních hvězd reggae, který proslul již koncem 60. let. Společně se skupinou The Aces měl jeden z prvních reggae hitů, které prorazily i mimo Jamajku – skladbu Israelites (1968). Jeho hudba kombinuje ska, rocksteady a raný reggae s melodickým přístupem inspirovaným rock'n'rollem.
Kompilace Essential Artist Collection vyšla v roce 2023 u vydavatelství BMG na 2CD a zahrnuje 50 zásadních nahrávek z Dekkerovy kariéry. Mezi výraznými skladbami nechybí Israelites, 007 (Shanty Town), It Mek, You Can Get It If You Really Want nebo King of Ska. Výběr nabízí přehled tvorby umělce, který patřil k průkopníkům reggae ve Velké Británii a dosahoval úspěchu v britských hitparádách ještě před nástupem Boba Marleyho.
