Big Country je skotská rocková kapela založená v roce 1981 v Dunfermline. Jejich zvuk, ovlivněný skotskou folkovou a vojenskou hudbou, se vyznačuje specifickým kytarovým soundem evokujícím zvuk dud a houslí. Do širšího povědomí se dostali jako představitelé new wave a alternativního rocku osmdesátých let.
Album Without the Aid of a Safety Net vyšlo v roce 1994 jako první živé album kapely a zachycuje jejich koncert v glasgowském Barrowland Ballroom z 29. prosince 1993. Trojalbum na vinylu přináší skladby z tehdy aktuální studiové desky The Buffalo Skinners, včetně Alone a Ships, vedle osvědčených hitů z předchozího období jako In a Big Country, Look Away nebo Fields of Fire. Nechybí ani covery Rockin' in the Free World a Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).
V době nahrávání tvořili Big Country Stuart Adamson (zpěv, kytara), Bruce Watson (kytara, zpěv), Tony Butler (baskytara) a Mark Brzezicki (bicí).
