Leonard Bernstein byl americký dirigent, hudební skladatel, klavírista a pedagog. Patřil mezi nejvýznamnější dirigenty své doby a byl také prvním americkým dirigentem, který získal mezinárodní uznání. Držitel sedmi cen Emmy, dvou cen Tony a šestnácti cen Grammy.
Album Mass na 2 CD přináší Bernsteinovo neobvyklé dílo pro sólisty, sbor, taneční soubor a symfonický orchestr. Skladba spojuje latinské texty tradiční katolické mše s anglickými tropes a reflektuje duchovní krizi i pochybnosti moderní doby. Dílo zahrnuje části jako Kyrie Eleison, Gloria In Excelsis, Credo, Agnus Dei i emotivní vrchol Things Get Broken.
