Art Pepper byl americký saxofonista, který se narodil 1. září 1925 v Gardenu City, Kalifornie, a zemřel 15. června 1982 v Los Angeles. Pepper začal svoji profesionální kariéru v 40. letech a rychle získal reputaci jako výjimečný altsaxofonista. Jeho hra byla ovlivněna Charlie Parkerem, ale Pepper vytvořil vlastní, emotivně bohatý styl. Během své kariéry spolupracoval s mnoha významnými hudebníky, ale jeho osobní život byl poznamenán bojem s drogovou závislostí a častými obdobími vězení, přesto však nahrál mnoho ceněných alb. Art Pepper se stal jedním z nejvyhledávanějších altsaxofonistů své doby a jeho hra je dodnes považována za výjimečnou. Jeho hudební odkaz zahrnuje nahrávky, které kombinují technickou brilanci s emocionální hloubkou.
